Feature: What do you say when the world is burning?
The world is in a lot of trouble right now.
Choose your cause.
Whether it's the Middle East, climate change, the rights of certain groups of people, or democracy--or the exact opposite of any of those.
Chose your cause and many people will viciously, angrily disagree with you. But they will agree that the world is currently filled with pain and division.
How do we heal all these wounds?
I don't have the answer, but I know where we can find it.
We all need to grow up. We need to raise our own standards, set better examples for each other.
We need to strive towards ambitious goals that will uplift others, or at least help us uplift ourselves.
As a copywriter and a marketer, I can talk about the importance of real communication, and the ways it usually falls apart.
But if I'm going to help you or anyone else become a better communicator, the very first thing I need to do is make sure that you're better at communicating with yourself.
And the best way to uncover your greatest talents and true inclinations is through adventure.
Chase down a wildly ambitious goal, putting yourself through experiences that test your nerve.
The experience will reveal how badly you really want something. The chase will ultimately bring you close to the thing that you want, by way of a frightening and dangerous route.
I have a lot to say about this kind of journey.
Your own personal Hero’s Journey
I spent years riding freight trains, bicycling across foreign countries, and starting businesses.
I’ve made some really dumb mistakes, and somehow gained more joy and success than I think I deserve.
Along the way, I’ve learned a thing or two about how to choose an ambitious goal, how to overcome fear and resistance, and how to achieve that goal.
It’s all about creating your own, personal Hero’s Journey. Right now, the world needs you to have your Hero’s Journey.
So, that's what I talk about now.
And I'm going to start talking about it in every possible venue I can get into, until growing by doing something unconventional becomes conventional.
